For history lovers
A castle open to the public, Listed Historic Monument, private and occupied all year round. From the Celts, who gave its name to this fertile land bringing together the fate of three valleys, to the wars, occupations and epidemics of the 20th and 21st centuries, Condé is one of the last French private castles still inhabited, having been able to preserve in situ its authentic decorations of the 17th and 18th centuries.
For lovers of literature
Jean de La Fontaine was born around July 8, 1621 in this elegant mansion that houses the Museum. It was probably within its walls that he found inspiration there and composed much of his literary work. He sold it in 1676 at the age of 55 and ended his days in Paris.
His birthplace was converted into a museum in 1876. This superb place of memory retraces the life of the poet and offers a journey through time and space to discover his work.
Jewel of the Casteltheodoric heritage, the Museum of the Treasure of the Hôtel-Dieu transports you through 700 years of history, from its founding in 1304 by Jeanne de Navarre Countess of Champagne and Queen of France, until today.
A former hospital, a place of reception and accommodation for the sick and more needy, you will meet the Augustinian sisters including the Priory Anne de la Bretonnière and Pierre Stoppa, lieutenant general of the armies of the Sun King, great benefactor of the establishment. Care of the wounds, salvation of souls, let yourself tell the surprising story of this case, yesterday hospital, today museum open to all. An exceptional treasure in the land of Jean de La Fontaine!
To commemorate history
The American cemetery in Belleau pays tribute to the many American soldiers, including those of the Marine Corps, who died during the 2nd Battle of the Marne and in particular that of Belleau Wood. You will be seized by the serenity of this necropolis which hosts 2289 steles. The last Sunday in May is Memorial Day. This ceremony pays tribute to them. An opportunity to admire French and American soldiers in ceremonial dress!
The abbey church of Saint-Ferréol is a very pure Gothic monument of grandiose proportions: the height under the vault is 22m, the width of the transept of 30m and the choir of the bedside to the two remaining spans of the nave, the length is 40m.
Bell with 20m arrow covered with chestnut essences (restored in December 2010).
Look in detail at the 38 choir stalls carved in the 16th century (Renaissance style) depicting symbolic subjects and scenes of secular life.
